H.E. Paul Chikawa is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the People’s Republic of China.
He was born in Goromonzi, Zimbabwe on 16 August, 1966 and holds a Bsc (Economic) Politics and International Relations (LSE).
Ambassador Chikawa was appointed to his current position by His Excellency Cde. Robert Gabriel Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe in October 2014. He was the Consul of Zimbabwe to Hong Kong from 2010 to 2014 and served as a diplomat at the Mission he is currently heading from 1999 to 2010.
Prior to the diplomatic appointments, Ambassador Chikawa served in the President’s Department of the Republic of Zimbabwe in various positions from 1986 to 1999. He served as the head of the department both at provincial level and senior level at the national headquarters.
Married to Mary Chikawa and have four children.
The ambassador considers his major achievement as his ability to relate with a cross section of people without regard to gender, race, religion or status, From his humble beginnings in a modestly developed village to now being a Principal Representative of his country in the world’s second biggest economy in GDP terms, the ambassador has continued in and watched Sino-Africa relations bloom starting with the advent of the FOFAC platform in 2000 all the way to attending the first ever Sino-Africa summit in Johannesburg in December 2015.
The ambassador also served as chairman of both the SADC and African Group of Ambassadors in Beijing in 2015 by virtue of the fact that Zimbabwe was the reigning chairman of both organs then. Considering that the ambassador started off his diplomatic career in Beijing and went on to serve at the highest level and chair the African group hardly a year into his appointment, this is considered a feat as both the SADC and AU had visible and successful engagements during that tenure.
Lastly the ambassador believes that one has to be guided by a sense of seeking to achieve on a continuous and daily basis, Therefore, for as long as he lives, he remains seized with the desire to serve to the best of his ability towards a more assertive Africa and a harmonious world community where there is more that unites than divides people.
